TallyTrip is a travel expense–splitting app for iPhone and iPad, published by
ChanoSys LLC (“we,” “us”). We built TallyTrip to be private by design: your
trips and expenses live on your device and in your own iCloud account. We do
not operate any servers that collect, store, or sell your data, and the app
contains no ads, no analytics, and no third-party trackers.
The short version: Your data stays with you. It is stored on
your device and synced through your personal iCloud account (Apple CloudKit).
We have no backend and cannot see your trips, expenses, or receipts. We do not
track you or sell anything.
Information the app handles
Sign in with Apple. When you sign in, Apple provides a
stable identifier for your account and, on first sign-in only, the name
you choose to share. This is stored securely on your device (in the iOS
Keychain) and is used to identify you within a shared trip so members can
see who added each expense. You can edit your display name in Settings.
Trip content you create. Trip names, destinations, dates,
member names, expenses, amounts, categories, notes, comments, and
settlement records. This content is stored on your device and in your
private iCloud database, and — if you choose to share a trip — in the
shared iCloud records for that trip.
Receipt photos and profile photo. Any receipt image or
profile photo you add is stored only on your device. Receipt photos are
deliberately not synced to iCloud or shared with other members.
How your data is stored and synced
TallyTrip has no server of its own. Data sync across your devices and
sharing a trip with other members are handled entirely by Apple’s iCloud and
CloudKit services, using your Apple ID. Because there is no ChanoSys backend,
we do not receive, view, or retain copies of your trips, expenses, or
receipts. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by
Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Sharing a trip with other people
When you invite others to a trip, the trip’s shared content (members,
expenses, balances, comments, and activity) becomes visible to the members
you add, through Apple’s iCloud sharing. Expenses you mark as
personal (private) are stored only in your own private
iCloud database and are not shared with anyone else.
Third-party services
Apple. Sign in with Apple and iCloud/CloudKit are used for
identity, sync, and sharing, under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
Currency exchange rates. For multi-currency trips, the app
requests public exchange-rate data from ExchangeRate-API
(open.er-api.com).
These requests contain only currency codes — no personal information, trip
data, or account identifiers are sent.
What we do not do
We do not collect analytics or usage tracking.
We do not show ads or use advertising identifiers.
We do not access your location.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with data brokers.
Retention and deleting your data
You are in control of your data. You can edit or delete individual trips and
expenses in the app, sign out at any time, or delete the app to remove its
local data from your device. Data stored in iCloud is managed through your
Apple ID; you can manage or remove iCloud app data in your device’s Settings.
Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our
side.
Children
TallyTrip is not directed to children and is not intended for use by children
under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the
“Last updated” date above and post the new version at this page.
